Claire and Dave White met at school in Chesterfield, before moving to Kent in 2004.

Dave was taken to hospital by ambulance on the afternoon of March 30 with breathing difficulties, having spent the weekend in bed with sickness and diarrhoea but no other underlying health issues.

Sadly, he died at 5.30am the following morning with Claire being told by telephone call shortly after.

She then had to tell their eight-year-old daughter, Megan.

Neither Claire or Megan had been able to travel to the hospital to see Dave, who was placed in a coma in critical care.

Tributes have poured in for ‘amazing man’ and ‘great manager’ Dave online, with others sharing their condolences with the family.

Catherine Howell wrote: “Such a amazing man who adored his family, he was a great manager always had time for everyone.

“When he came back to Chesterfield for visits with his family he would pop in and say hello, so very sad may you rest in peace.”

Richard Allen added: “A great guy to work for back in my Netto days, really sad news.”

Jules Ju Ju Darby said: “Sending my sincere condolences to David’s family and friends.”

Claire, 42, of Dartford, said: “My husband died – along with many others – working flat out to help others.

“Seeing people treating the weekend like a bank holiday really made me sad and angry because these are the people, the faces of the actual people who are making coronavirus go on for longer in the UK.

"More people will die because they are continuing to spread it.”

As a supermarket store manager, Dave was classed as a key worker and had been working long hours the week before, to ensure the store was fully-operational for customers desperate to food shop.

Despite the sadness, Megan wanted to thank the NHS staff who had tried to save her daddy – especially those in A&E, Laurel Ward and ITU.
