‘We are beginning to win this fight’: Number of Doncaster patients recovering from coronavirus grows

While 41 people have now died from Covid-19 in Doncaster, an increasing number are recovering from the virus, a spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said.

A statement said: “In the past 24 hours, we have safely discharged a further eight patients following treatment for coronavirus - meaning that 70 local people are now back home and are recuperating.

“This is fantastic news and shows that we are beginning to win this fight against this dreadful illness.”

Latest figures, released earlier today, revealed that the death toll in Doncaster had increased by four on yesterday’s figure.

Meanwhile, health chiefs in Doncaster have announced they will be remembering one of their own staff who has died from coronavirus during tomorrow night’s Clap For Carers event at 8pm.

On Sunday, plaster technician Kevin Smith, who had worked at Doncaster Royal Infirmary for nearly four decades died from coronavirus.

A spokesman said: “Our friend and colleague, Kevin, sadly passed away after a brief, but courageous, battle with Covid-19. This Thursday evening at 8pm, we are asking that when people #ClapForCarers that they also take a moment to reflect and thank Kevin, who, as a Plaster Technician for almost four decades, cared for innumerable patients in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, and whom, as a team, we will miss beyond all measure.
