Lucy Heeley, 15, stood outside her home on Scammadine Close, in Brinsworth, Rotherham and blasted out a stirring rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow on her cornet.

Her performance was both a thank you to the NHS staff and other key workers keeping us safe during the pandemic, and a welcome ray of hope to neighbours as the pandemic shows little sign of easing.

It was timed to coincide with the weekly round of applause on Thursday evening, and people gathered at their doors and windows to clap first those on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19 and then Lucy for her beautiful music.

Lucy’s ‘very, very proud’ mum Rebecca told how she has been playing since she was eight and is a member of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band.
