Walk-in Covid vaccination centre in Sheffield to open seven days a week
A new walk-in Covid vaccination centre in Sheffield will open seven days a week from Monday, it has been announced.
From Monday, June 14, it will be offering a walk-in service, open Monday-Sunday, from 8am to 5pm each day, and operating on a first come, first served ticketed basis.
Anyone who is eligible, currently all those aged 25 and over, can use the walk-in service, or appointments are still available to book online through the NHS booking website.
People had to be turned away from the pop-up walk-in vaccination centre at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre on Saturday after a huge queue formed ahead of its opening.
Hope Thackray, a 28-year-old from Upperthorpe who was the first person to be vaccinated at the Octagon Centre on June 9, said: “I booked my appointment straight away after it was announced that people aged 25 and over could book for their COVID-19 vaccination.
"I live close to the city centre, so it was easiest to book at the Octagon as it’s only a 15-minute walk away and it’s also close to my work. The process was simple, there were lots of signposts and people around to direct me and so I’d encourage anyone close by to go there for their vaccination.”
The Octagon Centre is located at the University of Sheffield, Clarkson Street, Sheffield S10 2TQ and is run by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It will be delivering around 800 vaccinations each day.
