Two more Covid-19 deaths confirmed in Sheffield

The latest fatalities takes the death toll at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust, which runs the Royal Hallamshire and Northern General hospitals, to 338 since the pandemic began.

Across South Yorkshire, a further nine coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Doncaster, while one more fatality has been recorded in both Barnsley and Rotherham. The region’s death toll from the virus topped 1,000 earlier this week.

Nationally, a further 192 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 32,484.

The patients were aged between 27 and 101 years old. All except one, aged 63, had known underlying health conditions.

On Tuesday, Susan Hird, Public Health consultant at Sheffield City Council, said she expects the city to remain in Tier 3 beyond November 18 when the restrictions are set to be reviewed.
