Since the pandemic began, 297 patients have now died with coronavirus at the trust’s hospitals, with another three deaths recorded by Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust and one at Sheffield Children’s Hospital – taking the city’s coronavirus hospital death toll to 301.

That does not include people who have died in care homes or elsewhere in the community, meaning the true number of fatalities is likely to be significantly higher.

Six people have now died with coronavirus at Sheffield’s hospitals since September 22, just over a fortnight ago.

Just one death had been recorded between August 19 and September 12.

A total of 2,329 people across Sheffield tested positive for coronavirus during the seven days to October 5, the latest date for which reliable figures are available – a weekly infection rate of 398.3 new cases per 100,000 people.
