Twelve more coronavirus-related deaths recorded in South Yorkshire

A further 12 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in South Yorkshire hospitals, the latest data reveals.

It comes after 11 hospital deaths related to the illness were confirmed in the county on Saturday.

In total, 871 people with coronavirus have now died in Sheffield hospitals, 709 in Doncaster, 548 in Rotherham and 579 in Barnsley.

Nationally, a further 258 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 81,304.

The patients were aged between 29 and 101 years old. All except 17 – aged 52 to 100 years old - had known underlying health conditions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will set out more details about how the lockdown will be eased on Monday.

Care home residents will be allowed to hold hands with a regular indoor visitor from March 8, it has been confirmed.
