After South Yorkshire was put into Tier 3 at the weekend, we asked our readers on what what they thought were the best steps to take to get the area out of the current Tier 3 measures. Here’s what some of you thought:

Leanne Wright said on our Facebook page: “Fact of it is no matter how many lockdowns are imposed, until a vaccine is available we’re still going to have to deal with Covid. It’s all well and good putting us in lockdowns, but without a solution at the end we’re just kicking a can down a street.”

Nicky Steels would opt for a hardline approach: “They want to look at the areas that are not following the restrictions and deal with them,” she said. “Get the army in.”

Gill Alvey told us: “People should stick to the rules, whether they agree with them or not, but whatever they decide about Christmas needs to be across the board and not just regions.

"The Government needs to think about people's health and mental states and not just their pockets. Yes there will be other Christmas's but not for all. They allow protests so give families a couple of days. It’s not exactly going to be a mass gathering.”

"A full tier four or five lockdown until next spring is all that can save us,” said David Cavill. “I'm absolutely sick of people running around thinking they are free.”

Mick Gethin said: “Go back to what we had before, with pubs and restaurants open until 11pm. We have to learn to live with this and all be more responsible. Groundhog day is not the answer.”

Said Marie Marriott: “When you were at school you had to learn the three Rs. Well everyone should learn ‘WMD’ - wash your hands, wear your mask, keep your distance and think about saving others as well as yourselves. It's that easy.”

Carol Bailey added: “It’s something we’ve got to try and live with. All these lockdowns are doing nothing because of the huge population of non believers.”
