South Yorkshire records one Covid-19 fatality

South Yorkshire has recorded a fall in its Covid-19 death count on Friday (March 19) as it recorded only one fatality in the whole county.

Latest figures released by NHS England showed that one person has died from the deadly virus in Rotherham, and no deaths were recorded in Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley.

Nationally, a further 74 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 85,659.

Patients were aged between 39 and 96, all except one, aged 78, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between January 5 and March 18, with the majority being on or after March 11.

There were 23 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

NHS England data also showed that a total of 23,757,540 Covid-19 vaccinations took place in England between December 8 and March 18, including first and second doses, which is a rise of 556,074 on the previous day.
