Sheffield's coronavirus infection rate drops by more than one third

The coronavirus infection rate in Sheffield has dropped by more than one third, the latest weekly update shows.

The figures, for the seven days to August 7, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community. Data for the most recent three days (August 8-10) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

In Sheffield, the infection rate dropped from 16.1 per 100,000 people in the week ending 31 July to 10.3 in the week ending 7 August. In the seven days to 7 August there were 60 confirmed positive coronavirus cases, compared to 94 in the previous week.

In Rotherham, the infection rate rose from 10.9 per 100,000 people to 14.7. It also rose from 10.9 to 13.0 in Barnsley and from 1.9 to 3.8 in Doncaster during the same period.

Pendle in Lancashire had the highest infection rate in England in the seven days to 7 August.
