All Year 7 pupils at Silverdale were due to return to face to face lessons today (March 11) for the first time since the third lockdown kept all schools closed after the Christmas holidays.

Yesterday the year group were all given a lateral flow test before being sent home, ready to come to school the next day.

However, as part of the testing process, positive cases were identified, meaning a small section of the cohort due to start today were instead told to remain at home for ten days.

Mrs Sarah Sims, Head of Silverdale School said: “As part of the routine testing in school, we are testing all year groups this week as they return to school. During this process, we identified two positive Covid cases amongst our Year 7 keyworker and vulnerable cohort.

"Therefore, as per the government guidance for schools, the Year 7 students within the affected bubble are having to self-isolate, along with anyone else defined as a close contact. This does not affect the rest of the Year 7 students as they had not yet returned to school for lessons.

"We want to say thank you to everyone in our school community for their support and co-operation during this time. Those students who are being tested for the first time have shown immense maturity and we are delighted to be welcoming them back into school.”

The parents of all the children affected have been informed that their child must remain at home.
