Sheffield roads 'gridlocked' as drivers queue for last McDonald's before stores close
Roundabouts and junctions near McDonald’s drive-thrus in South Yorkshire are ‘gridlocked’ as people queue up to buy food there before it shuts over coronavirus.
The fast food giant announced that it would close all its outlets in the UK and Ireland from 7pm tonight, following government guidance on social distancing.
In the wake of the news hundreds of people have gone out to get McDonald’s food for one last time before the closure.
Traffic is moving slowly on Archer Road in Sheffield, as well as Bawtry Road in Bramley, Rotherham, due to queues backed up as people wait to get to the drive-thru.
According to one driver on Bramley “the queue of cars stretched back to the M18.”
McDonald’s announced on March 17 it would close its seated areas, serving food only at drive-thrus.
Today it expanded the closure to all aspects of its chain in the UK and Ireland.
