Sheffield no longer has highest coronavirus infection rate in Yorkshire - top 10 revealed

The ten areas of Yorkshire worst hit by coronavirus have been revealed – and Sheffield no longer has the highest infection rate.

The city has one of the highest numbers of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in England because of the large number of tests carried out there, health experts have said. Earlier this month it also had the highest infection rate in Yorkshire.

However, as of 4pm on Sunday 14 June – the latest available data – the rate of infection per 100,000 of the population is now higher in the North Yorkshire town of Middlesbrough.

Areas with larger populations tend to have more cases than those with smaller populations. To account for the different population sizes, rates are calculated. The count for each area is divided by the total population and multiplied by 100,000.
