Sheffield hospitals reveal number of patients currently being treated for Covid-19
Hospitals in Sheffield are currently treating 406 Covid-19 patients, a slight increase from the 399 reported by Public Health England on January 19.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, however, reported a drop in a number of patients being treated in intensive care, with 30 patients compared with 33 earlier this week.
As of Thursday (January 21), Sheffield has recorded a further two deaths, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 717 since the pandemic hit.
Latest figures by NHS England have also shown that more than three quarters of major hospital trusts in the country have more Covid-19 patients than at the peak of the first wave of the virus.

This means some 115 out of 140 acute NHS trusts were recording a higher number of Covid-19 patients at 8am on January 19 than at any point between mid-March and the end of May 2020.
This includes 13 of the 14 acute trusts in eastern England, 14 of the 15 acute trusts in south-west England, and all 19 acute trusts in south-east England.
The figures, which have been published on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard, also show that 31 of the 140 acute trusts were recording their highest ever number of Covid-19 patients on January 19.
NHS England also reported a total of 3,768 hospital admissions of people with Covid-19 on the same date, a drop of nine percent on the equivalent figure a week ago on January 12.
All regions have recorded a week-on-week decrease in daily admissions apart from north-east England/Yorkshire (up 6 percent) and north-west England (up 1 percent).
