Sheffield death toll hits 218 but England records lowest rise since day after lockdown

Three more people have died with coronavirus at hospitals in Sheffield, taking the city’s death toll to 218.

COVID-19 has now claimed 526 lives across South Yorkshire, where NHS England announced today another 16 people had died.

Five more deaths were confirmed in Doncaster, six in Rotherham and two in Barnsley during the 24 hours up to 5pm yesterday, Sunday, May 3.

England today reported 204 new hospital deaths, taking the total to 21,384, and five more peopled died in Scotland, 14 in Wales and six in Northern Ireland.

The daily rise in hospital deaths is the lowest since the end of March, though it has been pointed out that Monday’s figures tend to be lower due to a lag in reporting deaths over the weekend.

There have now been 2,191 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Sheffield, 494 in Doncaster, 736 in Rotherham and 678 in Barnsley, and the UK death toll stands at 28,650
