Sheffield coronavirus death toll rises as 16 more die in South Yorkshire

A further 16 patients have died in South Yorkshire hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus, the latest daily figures have shown.

Figures released by NHS England confirmed nine more people had died in Sheffield’s hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Thursday, January 14, bringing the total coronavirus-related fatalities to 683.

In Doncaster, there was one additional death bringing the death tally to 630, and in Rotherham there have now been 472 deaths after two more were recorded.

There were four more deaths recorded in Barnsley bringing the death toll to 475.

The data represents the deaths of hospital patients who tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose deaths were recorded in the latest reporting period.

There were 807 such deaths in England, bringing the total number of hospital deaths to 59,519.

According to Government data, a total of 873 patients across all settings in Sheffield have died within 28 days of a positive test up to January 15.
