Sheffield coronavirus death toll nears 250 as 181 more die in England

One more person who tested positive for coronavirus in Sheffield has died, the latest NHS England figures reveal.

It means 241 deaths have now been recorded in the city’s hospitals. The person’s family have been informed.

Nationally, a further 181 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,527.

A spokesperson for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust confirmed to The Star that as of Thursday, “it is just over 660 people who have been discharged following care for Covid.”

Across South Yorkshire, two more people have died in Doncaster, which brings the number of hospital fatalities there to 147. In Barnsley, the total number of deaths has increased by one to 110. A further four deaths have been recorded in Rotherham, taking the death toll there to 138.
