Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis says he expects Sheffield to stay in Tier 3

More areas in England will be placed under the country’s toughest coronavirus restrictions, Health Secretary Matt Hancock is expected to tell the Commons this afternoon as recorded case numbers escalate and hospitals report record numbers of patients being treated for the virus.

Sheffield remained in Tier 3 following a review on December 17 and has been in that tier over Christmas.

The Barnsley MP tweeted this afternoon: “As with recent Tiering announcements I've not been consulted, but I don't expect changes to South Yorkshire's current arrangements. I'm in close contact with @SYBhealthcare & others on vaccine roll-out & NHS pressures.”

He added: “The impact of Christmas has yet to be felt and the new strain of COVID poses a danger, so it's vital we continue to keep doing everything we can to keep our families and NHS safe.”
