Health bosses at Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust say they are now looking after 97 people – up from just three a month ago.

In its latest daily update late yesterday, a spokesman said: “Today we have admitted an additional eight patients who have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing our overall total to 97.

"That's 79 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, five at Bassetlaw and 13 at Montagu Hospital. Six of these patients require intensive care.

“On a brighter note, we have discharged one individual, and we wish them the very best in their ongoing recovery.

“Please continue to support us by remembering hands, face and space when you're out and about, and please adhere to newly introduced restrictions. These new measures will make all of the difference as we head further into winter and the challenging weeks ahead.

“We would also like to remind you that yesterday we announced that we would be suspending all visiting except under exceptional circumstances.”

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been more than 240 deaths in Doncaster’s hospitals, but the town’s figure is thought to be far higher when deaths in care homes and the wider community are taken into consideration and added to the toll.
