Second coronavirus death in three days recorded in South Yorkshire

Two people have died with coronavirus at South Yorkshire hospitals in three days.

A patient at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust was among 18 more people the NHS announced today, Thursday, September 17, had died in hospitals across England after testing positive for Covid-19.

The latest death comes after Sheffield Teaching Hospitals recorded another coronavirus fatality on Tuesday – the first to be confirmed by the trust since August 29, more than two weeks previously.

The death in Rotherham took place on Tuesday, September 15, according to NHS England, but was only announced as part of the latest figures published today.

A third of the 18 deaths announced today were at hospitals in the North East and Yorkshire.

The latest patients to die were aged between 56 and 95 years old, and all but two had known underlying health conditions.

The number of confirmed reported coronavirus deaths at hospitals in England now stands at 29,676.
