More than 500 University of Sheffield students have now tested positive for coronavirus, after a record 109 cases were confirmed in a single day.
A total of 583 students and six members of staff at the university have now tested positive for Covid-19 since the new academic year began.
Yesterday, Monday, October 5, was the first time the number of daily cases has exceeded 100.
Sheffield Hallam University yesterday announced that 369 students and four employees had contracted the virus, bringing the total number of cases at the two universities to 952.
The University of Sheffield says that when someone tests positive for Covid-19 it follows ‘detailed processes and procedures’, which including tracking any contacts, informing relevant staff and students, and cleaning affected areas where appropriate.
Information from timetables and system logs to help identify staff and students who may have been in close proximity to a confirmed Covid-19 case and may have to isolate, it adds, and support is available for self-isolating students.
