One new coronavirus death reported in Doncaster as latest NHS figures are released

One new coronavirus death has been reported in Doncaster in the last 24 hours, according to newly released NHS figures.

It means the death toll for the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust now stands at 148.

The total number of confirmed reported deaths in the UK now stands at nearly 35,000 – but it is thought the true figure may be closer to 44,000.

The figure also does not include deaths in care homes, of which there have been 11 reported cases in Doncaster, making the town’s latest death toll 159, although the figure is thought to be far higher in the town.

The numbers relate to deaths recorded and reported in the last 24 hours in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop.

Upwards of 200 patients have been allowed home after treatment.

It comes after the NHS officially added loss of smell and taste to the list of UK coronavirus symptoms, in addition to a fever and persistent cough, yesterday.

Anyone suffering from either must self-isolate for seven days and their family will need to stay indoors for 14 days, under new NHS guidelines.

There have been warnings that the UK could see a second spike of coronavirus in autumn and winter

During last night's Downing Street briefing, Prof Jonathan Van-Tam stated it would take a vaccine "really capable of suppressing disease levels" for the country to be "out of this".
