A total of 284 hospital patients have now died in the city after testing positive for coronavirus, according to the latest figures from NHS England this afternoon, Friday, June 19.

Across England, 28,221 people have now died in hospital with the disease.

The latest patients to die were aged between 12 and 97 years old, with all but two, aged 65 and 85, having underlying health conditions.

There was one new hospital death announced in Rotherham, where 185 people have now died with the disease, but none in Doncaster or Barnsley, where there have been 213 and 137 deaths respectively.

Across the UK, as of 9am yesterday, June 18, 42,288 people are confirmed to have died with COVID-19 in hospitals, care homes or elsewhere in the community.
