Nine more coronavirus deaths confirmed in Sheffield

A further nine people who tested positive for coronavirus in Sheffield have died, the latest NHS England figures show.

There have now been 80 coronavirus-related deaths in the city following the latest increase.

The families of the latest fatalities have been informed, NHS England said.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, a further five patients have died in Barnsley, which brings the total number of deaths recorded there to 36.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust has now recorded 29 coronavirus deaths, an increase of one from Thursday. Rotherham also recorded one more Covid-19 death across the same period, bringing the total there to 19.

There are now 1,020 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Sheffield as of Thursday, according to Public Health England. Health experts said the actual number of cases in every area is likely to be much higher than the official figures show.
