New postcode checker allows you to instantly check your area's local lockdown status

A new website has gone live which allows people to type in their postcode and check the lockdown status of where they live.

The website, called LockdownChecker, lists a variety of data for each area, giving insight into whether or not any special local lockdown measures are in place as well as what facilities are open.

In order to check your area all youi need to do is type in your post code and the search engine finds and displays all of the information about your area.

It is seperated into a number of categories.

These are: area name; watchlist status; are non-essential shops open?; can two households meet indoors?; can two households meet outdoors?; are pubs and restaurants open?; are gyms and fitness centres open?

At the moment the country is in a state of national lockdown, however the restrictions have been gradually lifted over time, with most businesses able to reopen as of July 4.

Any further restrictions which were due to be liften on August 1 were delayed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, after the number of cases spiked in some areas of England.

In areas that have seen spikes, local lockdowns have been enforced. These prevent people from separate households meeting indoors or in gardens.

Such local lockdowns have been put in place in Leicester, West Yorkshire, East Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

At the moment South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire are all free from local lockdowns.
