Nearly 1,000 Doncaster hospital patients discharged after beating Covid

Nearly 1,000 hospital patients in Doncaster have beaten coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary, announced this morning that it was close to reaching the milestone.

A spokesman said: “At the time of writing, we are just two individuals away from safely discharging 1,000 patients who have battled and beaten Covid-19 since March.”

The hospital also runs Worksop’s Bassetlaw Hospital and Mexborough Montagu.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been more than 370 deaths from Covid-19 across the three hospitals.

Last week, hopsital bosses said they were currently caring for about 200 patients with coronavirus but said that figures were stabilising and that staff were able to cope with the demand.

Doncaster has had some of the worst infection rates in the country in recent weeks, but in the last few days, health bosses have welcomed what they called 'green shoots’ with the number starting to decline.
