More deaths confirmed in Sheffield as UK announces another 873 coronavirus victims

A further four people who tested positive for coronavirus in Sheffield have died, the latest NHS England figures show.

In total, there have now been 154 coronavirus-related deaths in the city – a rise of four from the previous day.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, eight more deaths have been confirmed by Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust, taking the fatalities there to 63.

In Rotherham, four more patients have died, which brings the total number of deaths there to 64. And in Barnsley, there have now been 53 coronavirus-related deaths following another two recorded fatalities.

Across England a further 778 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 15,607.

The death toll for England and the UK is expected to be much higher than official figures as deaths in care homes and elsewhere in the community are not included in the daily updates.
