McDonalds has announced that it will be closing all of the seated areas in its restaurants and offering only takeaway, Drive Thru and McDelivery following government coronavirus advice.

A statement from the company said that the change would be made from 5am tomorrow (March 18) and would last until further notice.

It said that the move was being made to “ensure the wellbeing of employees and customers.”

The company added: “With immediate effect all of our Drive Thrus and all of our McDelivery orders through Deliveroo and Just Eat will be contact free, with no physical contact between customers, employees and couriers wherever possible.

“In these unprecedented times our restaurants will continue to remain open for as long as it is possible to do so.”

Today the government announced that it would be changing planning permission to enable all cafes and restaurants to operate as takeaways during the coronavirus outbreak.
