A mass vaccination centre in Sheffield has urged patients not to put themselves at risk by travelling to their appointment in unsafe conditions.

Sheffield Arena tweeted that it remains open despite the freezing temperatures and forecast for further snow today.

A yellow weather warning for snow is in place until midnight, which means roads are likely to be affected and there is a risk of slips and falls on icy surfaces.

The post read: “COVID-19 vaccination appointments still going ahead as scheduled. However, we do not want anyone to put themselves at risk if they feel it is not safe to travel.”

Anyone who needs to cancel or rearrange their appointment should call the number provided on their booking letter.

As of 4pm on Tuesday 12,646,486 people in the UK had received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Almost one in four adults in the country had been vaccinated with their first dose as of February 8.
