Mapped: The areas in South Yorkshire with the highest coronavirus infection rate

The coronavirus infection rate in Sheffield is the highest in Yorkshire by local authority area, Public Health England data shows.

At 460.6, the rate of infection per 100,000 of the population is higher than anywhere else in the region. As of Sunday, 28 June there have been 2,683 confirmed cases of the disease in Sheffield.

The latest NHS England figures show there have been 285 coronavirus-related deaths in the city’s hospitals since the pandemic hit.

Barnsley has the second-highest rate in Yorkshire at 443.7, with 1,088 confirmed cases. Then it is Rotherham, which has an infection rate of 407.7 and 1,079 confirmed cases.

Doncaster has the fifth highest rate by local authority area in the region – 305.9 – with 950 confirmed cases. Hull is the local authority area with the fourth highest infection rate.

Earlier this month the Office for National Statistics revealed the Fir Vale neighbourhood in Sheffield had recorded the most coronavirus deaths in England.
