Latest Sheffield coronavirus infection rate as South Yorkshire put into Tier 3 lockdown

The latest available data reveals there were 406 cases per 100,000 people in Sheffield in the seven days to 16 October, down from 467 the week before.

During this time, 2375 people tested positive for coronavirus, compared to 2729 in the previous seven days.

Sheffield’s director of Public Health previously said infections among students are “stabilising", which helps explain the drop. Mr Fell said the city’s infection rate is “still too high”, however.

Infection rates are falling in the areas with the highest numbers in England as Tier 2 and 3 restrictions begin to take effect.

In Nottingham, 2,237 new cases were recorded in the seven days to October 16 – the equivalent of 672.0 cases per 100,000 people.

This is down from 987.1 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to October 9.

Case rates have also fallen in Liverpool, Newcastle, Exeter, Manchester and Leeds.
