Latest Covid-19 infection rate in Sheffield as cases RISE in one area of South Yorkshire

Cases in Sheffield are at their lowest since September while infections in Doncaster and Barnsley are also falling thanks to the lockdown.

However, Rotherham is one of just 16 areas of the UK to see a week on week rise.

The figures, for the seven days to February 13, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (February 14-17) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 16 (5%) have seen a rise in case rates, 298 (95%) have seen a fall and one is unchanged.

Corby in Northamptonshire has the highest rate in England, with 228 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 13 – the equivalent of 315.7 cases per 100,000 people.

This is down from 437.6 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 6.

Middlesbrough has the second highest rate, down from 371.0 to 307.8, with 434 new cases.

St Helens in Merseyside is in third place, down from 352.2 to 283.5, with 512 new cases.

West Lindsey (92.0 to 133.8)

Exeter (38.1 to 72.3)

Newark and Sherwood (212.4 to 245.1)
