'I am a Tory voter and why shouldn't I clap every Thursday?' - Letter

This Star reader says now – during the coronavirus pandemic - is not the time to score political points. Do you agree?

In these uncertain times I hate to write a letter regarding party politics, as I believe this isn’t the time to point score.

I was, however, slightly annoyed at Pete Thetree’s letter regarding the ‘Clap for NHS workers’, and how can Tory voters clap.

Excuse me, but why on earth not?

I’m a Tory voter and I clap every Thursday.

I do not support privatisation of the NHS, but I support more funding for the NHS, which the Tories promised in their manifesto.

It seems that Pete has a problem with the Conservative Party and that is fine.

We live in a democracy and still have free speech, now thanks to the fact ‘Commie Jezza’ has crawled back into his coffin.

I take it that Pete is probably a Labour supporter, but that may be a generalisation on my part, if so I apologise.

He may support one of the other, insignificant parties, and that is fine.

But for the purpose of this letter I guess Labour is his tipple.

I have many problems with Labour, specifically their immigration policy, which has been ‘let them all in, all are welcome’.

Fine, but that doesn’t help our already over-subscribed NHS.

So I suppose you could say the same about Labour supporters and indeed the supporters of the other, insignificant political parties, Greens, Lib Dems etc, which have the same view on immigration, ‘flood the country’ and to hell with the consequences.

All these people should refrain from clapping.

Immigration is vital for our NHS and country, but ‘open door, unrestricted’ immigration is damaging to our NHS and country.

I believe everybody, of every political inclination, gender, race, nationality and sexual orientation should clap.

I believe those who don’t do not deserve any NHS treatment.

Pete Thetree and your two relatives who work for the NHS and believe clapping is ‘pointless’, shame on you all.

And as for your mother-in-law, who said the clapping gave her a headache, take two paracetamol and suck it up.
