Hospital's thanks after Doncaster teacher makes dozens of coronavirus face shields for NHS

A Doncaster school teacher has put his time on lockdown to good use – by making dozens of protective coronavirus face shields for staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Chris Gibbons, head of design and technology at Edenthorpe’s Hungerhill School, has been making the kit – and hospital bosses have praised him for his efforts.

A spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “A big thank you to Mr Gibbons, the Head of DT at Hungerhill School, who has been busy making face shields for staff at DBTH.

“We are very grateful for your support during this difficult time.

A school spokesman said: “Very proud of Mr Gibbons, our Head of DT who has been in school making face shields that are now being used by the ICU staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, well done Mr Gibbons!”

Mr Gibbons has also issued an appeal on Twitter for more materials so he can make more masks.

He needs a olypropylene sheet/roll 0.5 mm thick and clear pvc sheet/roll 200microns 0.2mm thick -A4 size minimum to create more visors.

It comes after criticism of the Government over inadequate supplies of personal protection equipment – masks, gloves and gowns – with many doctors and nurses at hospitals across the country saying they were being exposed to Covid-19 because of a lack of kit.
