After revealing how the centre had administered 2,500 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in just three and a half days, Dr Hart is now calling for the vaccination programme to be rolled out to more GP practices in Sheffield, describing the move as a possible “game changer” in the fight against Covid-19.
In doing so, he believes that everyone in the city could “easily” be vaccinated within two months – as long as the supply and onward deployment of vaccines are sufficient.
Posting on Twitter, he said: “Really pleased with the momentum we are generating around safe rapid vaccination in primary care. We vaccinated five per cent of our entire local population in three and a half days. We could easily vaccinate everyone in two months if we had supply chain.
"Certainly we could cover the first dose of the 30 per cent most at risk within one month. This could be the game changer we are looking for. Forget mass centres. Give local GPs the vaccine. Our patients know and trust us. We understand risk reduction for covid spread.
"I’ll say it again. Get the vaccines to GP practices asap and we will rapidly vaccinate the population safely.
“And the footnote, we’ll do it in partnership with our local community, local volunteers, building a legacy of social engagement that will help us rebuild.”
