The areas of Sheffield which have been worst hit by coronavirus have been revealed by the Government.

Data released today by the Office for National Statistics shows Fir Vale to be the worst-hit area, with 18 confirmed deaths so far.

The deprived north Sheffield suburb has twice as many as any other district, with Norton and Norton Lees and Woodhouse Mill both on nine.

Further afield, Kimberworth Park has recorded 13 deaths so far while Killamarsh has suffered eight.

In contrast, the west of the city has seen fewer fatalities, with areas such as Bents Green and Millhouses seeing no deaths at all so far.

The data – which covers the year to April 17 – also shows that and that Sheffield has a relatively low number of covid-19 fatalities when compared to other parts of the country.

33 people have died in Sheffield per 100,000 of population, compared to 60 in Manchester and 82 in Liverpool.
