Everything that can reopen in Sheffield from Saturday as lockdown restrictions relaxed again

Indoor theatres, music venues, soft play centres and skating rinks will be allowed to reopen from tomorrow, Saturday, August 15, as lockdown restrictions are further eased.

Bowling alleys and casinos can also welcome back customers, while beauty salons, tattoo studios, spas and barbers will be able to offer all ‘close contact’ services and treatments.

Sports and business event pilots can resume, too, beginning with the return of audiences for the World Snooker Championship final which gets underway at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre tomorrow.

But nightclubs, dance halls and discotheques must remain closed, along with all sexual entertainment venues and hostess bars.

Fines for those who repeatedly flout rules on face coverings – which are now mandatory in all shops and on public transport – will double to a maximum of £3,200, and there will be new fines for people hosting raves or other illegal gatherings of more than 30 people.

Announcing the new measures on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “Today, we are able to announce some further changes which will allow more people to return to work and the public to get back to more of the things they have missed.

"However, as I have always said, we will not hesitate to put on the brakes if required, or to continue to implement local measures to help to control the spread of the virus.”

The changes come two weeks after the easing of restrictions had been halted due to concerns about a slight increase in the number of people testing positive for Covid-19, which the Government said ‘appears to have levelled off’.
