Entire school closed for deep clean as two students test positive for Covid-19

One of Doncaster’s biggest secondary schools has closed for a deep clean after two students tested positive for Covid-19.

Hall Cross Academy has sent pupils home this afternoon after two Year 11 students tested positive.

Two other Doncaster schools have also confirmed cases today, bringing the number of schools in the town hit by coronavirus to at least six.

The Maple Medical Pupil Referral Unit in Balby and Owston Park Primary, Skellow have also confirmed cases.

Canon Popham at Edenthorpe, Plover Primary in Intake and McAuley Catholic High School in Cantley have also had staff and pupils test positive.

A spokesman for Hall Cross said: “We have two confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Year 11 students.

"Following advice from Public Health England, Y11 will be sent home to self-isolate for two weeks.

"In addition, students in Years 10, 12 and 13 will be sent home from 1pm today in order to deep clean the Upper School site. Years 10, 12, and 13 students will return to school as normal on Wednesday 16 September.”

A spokesman for Maple Medical PRU said: “We have had a number of positive tests for Covid 19 and so are closing the school whilst we have a deep clean.”

Parents at Skellow’s Owston Park Primary were told that a single positive Covid-19 case had been confirmed in the school’s Red Class with pupils in that class told to stay at home for 14 days.

Doncaster Deaf Trust on Leger Way also reported a number of positive cases last week.
