FROM THE EDITOR: It's the start of a new week in Sheffield and just like the last one it's anything but ordinary

Another Monday arrives but it feels nothing like usual. There is none of the daily rush for most of us and our offices are now in our homes.

The news is anything but ordinary at the moment and that is exactly the same for the way our team at The Star is working. We are all writing and interviewing from home.

Fortunately we live in an era where we can send stories, photos and even newspaper pages from anywhere that has internet access.

Journalists, as you will know, have rightly been classed as key workers by the government. That means we are able to go out and cover stories when necessary. But actually, we are doing that as little as possible.

We don’t want to put others at risk any more than we want our journalists to be in danger so on the rare occasion when a story can only be told from the scene, we follow the social distancing rules very closely. It is all new for us, just like the strange life now is for everyone.

I also wanted to take a minute to thank you all for your support. The Star, like all local newspapers, is here to serve our community.

For us that is Sheffield and we love this place as much as anyone could.

We will keep working hard to keep our city informed and ensure everyone has access to the information that will keep them safe. This is a very challenging time for newspapers as advertisers understandably don’t want to promote their goods as this time and many people aren’t able to go to the shops at all.

Our industry has faced difficulties for quite some time now as the balance of print and digital battled with each other, with a large chunk of readers expecting to get their news free of charge on the internet.

But we continue to doing what we do best, finding the stories that matter, holding those in power to account and being a voice for everyone in our city.

With your help, we’ll also keep doing our best to raise a smile, to reassure and to remind you that we’re all in this together. That is how we’ll get back to normal and what a celebration we will have when that day comes.

Until then we keep focusing on the positive, helping the most vulnerable and doing what we do best … getting through as team Sheffield, team UK and team world.
