Doncaster health chief issues fresh warning as town sees rise in coronavirus cases

The number of COVID-19 cases in Doncaster has risen to 3.5 per 100,000 people over the last few days, prompting health bosses to issue fresh pleas for people to stick to guidelines on social distancing and following safety rules.

Dr Rupert Suckling, Director of Public Health in Doncaster, said: “This week we have seen a slight rise in our number of cases to 3.5 per 100,000 people.

"Whilst this is still below the national average, it highlights the importance of everyone continuing to follow all the safety guidance in place to ensure we slow the spread of COVID-19.

“The government have confirmed that from tomorrow further easing of restrictions will go ahead. Of course it’s great to see the return of a bit more normality into our lives, but once again it’s important to remember to stick to the safety measures in place to ensure we slow the spread of the virus.

“We need to continue with the basics; keep to physical distancing, wear face coverings where required and regularly washing our hands.

“Plus, if you think you have any symptoms of coronavirus it’s vital to book a test as soon as possible.”

Earlier this week, Doncaster Royal Infirmary confirmed that it had admitted its first coronavirus patient in several days

A spokesman said that the number of inpatients at DRI had also ‘crept up ever so slightly’ to six.
