The death toll hit 41,349 today as the coronavirus lockdown slowly eases across the nation.

However, the true UK death toll is likely to be much higher.

The Office for National Statistics this week revealed coronavirus was involved in 51,766 deaths up to May 21 - 10,000 more than the official figure.

The figures relate to deaths within hospitals run by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital at Worksop.

More than 350 patients treated for coronavirus across the Trust have been allowed home after receiving treatment for COVID-19.
