Doncaster coronavirus death toll rises as eight further fatalities confirmed by NHS

The number of people in Doncaster to have died from coronavirus now stands at more than 160, new NHS figures have confirmed.

Eight new coronavirus deaths have been reported in Doncaster in the last 24 hours, according to newly released NHS England figures.

It means the death toll for the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust now stands at 161 with 695 cases.

The total number of confirmed reported deaths in the UK now stands at 36,042 – but it is thought the true figure is far higher.

The figure also does not include deaths in care homes, of which there have been 11 reported cases in Doncaster, making the town’s latest death toll 172, although the figure is thought to be far higher in the town.

The numbers relate to deaths recorded and reported in the last 24 hours in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop.

Upwards of 250 patients have been allowed home after treatment.

A further 187 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,266.

Meanwhile, the number of cases reported worldwide has now passed more than five million with more than 330,000 deaths.

The UK has the second highest death toll in the world after the USA, where nearly 100,000 people have died.
