Doncaster coronavirus death toll nears 100 as UK total approaches 27,000

Newly-released NHS figures show there have now been 95 deaths in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals Trust region.

Nationally, the UK total stands at 26,448.

The figure was raised significantly yesterday after deaths in care homes were included in the total.

In England, a further 391 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 20,137.

Patients were aged between 15 and 101 years old.

15 of the 391 patients (aged between 49 and 97 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

Yesterday saw Doncaster record its worst day during the pandemic, with 11 deaths.

The USA has the most number of fatalities, with more than one million cases and nearly 60,000 deaths – higher than the figure for the number of Americans who died in the Vietnam War.

There have been 411 cases of coronavirus in Doncaster and more than 130 people have been successfully allowed to recuperate at home after receiving treatment, with health chiefs announcing the discharge of a further five yesterday.

The figures relate to deaths recorded in the last 24 hours across hospitals in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust, which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Worksop’s Bassetlaw Hospital and Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital.
