'Disgust' over masks and gloves being littered on Sheffield's streets during coronavirus crisis

These photos show just some of the many masks and gloves being discarded on Sheffield’s streets during the coronavirus crisis.

They were taken by Jodie Myles, who counted 23 such items during a short walk through Heeley and Meersbrook with her dog.

The 47-year-old secondary teacher, who has five children, hopes that sharing the pictures will make people think twice and dispose of the protective equipment responsibly.

“I’m just disgusted that people are showing their blatant disregard for each other by discarding their masks, surgical gloves and anti-bacterial wipes anywhere and everywhere,” she said.

People are using this equipment to protect themselves and others but if they’re not getting rid of them responsibly they’re just adding to the problem.”

Ms Myles added that she wears a mask and gloves when visiting the supermarket, because other customers don’t always observe the social distancing guidelines, but she always disposes of them in a bin.
