Covid deaths in Sheffield and South Yorkshire rises by four

Four more deaths have been recorded of people with Covid-19 in Sheffield and South Yorkshire hospitals.

The latest NHS statistics released today show two people with Covid-19 sadly died in Sheffield hospitals and two in Barnsley .

Figures released by NHS England show the deaths were recorded in the 24 hours to 4pm on Tuesday.

In Sheffield the total number of deaths within 28 days of first positive test is now 1,125 and in Barnsley 786.

Barnsley currently has the highest infection rate in England, with 478 new cases recorded in the seven days to 19 March.

A further 69 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 85,980, .

Patients were aged between 37 and 97 and all except four (aged between 55 and 84) had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between October 30 and March 23.
