Another patient also succumbed to the disease in Barnsley, taking the death toll there to 341.

There have been no further coronavirus-related fatalities in Sheffield, which has so far recorded 514 Covid deaths, or in Rotherham where the death toll stands at 367.

Earlier this week, the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust Trust announced that it was likely that this week would see the admission of its 2,000th coronavirus patient.

The infection rate has risen in Doncaster but has fallen in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley in recent weeks.
