Coronavirus: UK daily death total rises by 142 as more patients die in Sheffield

Two more people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in Sheffield, according to the latest statistics from NHS England.

The latest increase means there have now been 262 coronavirus-related deaths in the city’s hospitals.

In addition to hospital deaths in Sheffield, a large number of people are known to have died with coronavirus in care homes.

NHS England has announced 116 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,866.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire: in Rotherham, the number of fatalities is now 153 after two more people died. The death toll in Doncaster remains at 172, and the death toll in Barnsley is 116 after two more deaths.
