Coronavirus: Three more people die in Sheffield as UK death toll edges towards 35,000

In total, 258 patients who tested positive for the disease have died in the city and there have been 2,484 confirmed cases.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, Doncaster has recorded 695 positive cases and has been hit by 172 deaths, an increase of one within a 24 hour reporting period.

Rotherham has recorded 862 cases along with 151 deaths- an increase of two.

Deaths have stalled in Barnsley over the past few days after the town reported 878 cases and a death toll of 113.

NHS figures show that hospital deaths are ‘continuing to trend downards’- England had 147 new cases within the past day, Scotland reported nine, Wales had seven and Northern Ireland recorded one.

The UK's coronavirus hospital death toll has increased to 29,735 after 164 more fatalities were reported in 24 hours - the lowest total on a Sunday since the lockdown started.

But the figures could be much higher, as they do not include deaths that occurred in care homes or within the community.
