Beck Primary, in Shiregreen, will be offering all its pupils ‘grab bag’ for lunch next week from Monday, March 23, to Friday, March 27.

It comes after the government announced that all schools across the country would close their doors from Friday, March 20, until further notice as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The grab bags will contain a cheese or tuna sandwich, a snack, fruit, and a drink, and will be available to parents from the Beck staff car park entrance, on Westnall Road.

Sue Bridges, executive headteacher of Beck and Hucklow Primary Schools, said: “This is not just at Beck, they will also be available at the front of Hucklow Primary School, Owler Brook at the gate and Whiteways Primary in the car park.”

All four schools are part of Cascade Multi Academy Trust and will be putting measures in place, in line with government advice on social distancing, to minimise the risk for the vulnerable.

Ms. Bridges added: “They will be available for all families, whoever wants to come out and get it from around half 11 to 12:30pm – all the information has gone out in letters to parents.

“We’re four schools that work together and what we’re also doing is, the teachers are making contact with the families every week to talk to the children about the work they’ve got and see if they need any more work.

“We’ve got emails set up so teachers can email any work to pupils and we’re currently looking at how we can provide childcare for key workers or vulnerable families and that will be on one of our sites, staffed with school staff.”

The schools will also be in communication with vulnerable families every day and have a list of contacts they can speak to if they need support.

If families are in short supply of essentials and have not been able to get a free meal there will also be a delivery service available.
