Coronavirus: Sheffield Cineworld, Odeon and Picturehouse to shut until further notice

A popular cinema in Sheffield city centre has closed following government advice on coronavirus, with another in the city set to shut later this week.

Odeon Luxe on Arundel Gate has shut with immediate effect after the latest government advice urged everyone to avoid unnecessary social contact.

The closure is part of a nationwide move from Odeon cinemas.

In a statement posted on Twitter the cinema chain said: "Following Government guidelines Odeon cinemas are closed until further notice.

"If you have pre-booked tickets online these will be refunded automatically."

Cineworld and Picturehouse has also announced the closure of all its cinemas across the UK starting from Wednesday, 18 March until further notice.

Cineworld Group CEO, Mooky Greidinger said: "We deeply value our cinema-loving customers and have no doubt we will be serving everyone again as soon as possible with a full slate of Hollywood blockbusters and the best of independent films and content."
